XIAOMI-W founder Lei Jun has formally announced legal proceedings against hundreds of social media accounts suspected of spreading false information. On September 13th morning, Lei Jun posted on his personal Weibo account stating: "Our legal department has gathered evidence against hundreds of accounts this year and filed dozens of lawsuits, which are awaiting court hearings one by one."

On September 12th, reports revealed that viral online claims including "NIO vehicle spontaneous combustion and post-collision fires" and "XIAOMI-W vehicle doors unable to open after collision" were confirmed to be false information. A batch of bloggers involved in creating fake reviews have been arrested.

A specialized investigation into "black PR operations" was conducted, with four automotive companies - XIAOMI-W, XPeng, NIO, and Deepal - participating in interviews. The investigation exposed systematic online harassment issues facing the automotive industry: AI-generated defamatory content, abusive comments targeting car owners, and coordinated smear campaigns against new vehicle launches have become standard practices for malicious PR operations.

Particularly concerning is the discovery of algorithmic vulnerabilities on certain online platforms where "headline orientation determines traffic allocation." Identical content can achieve vastly different reach based on subtle wording differences, creating opportunities for online manipulation.

More shocking revelations emerged about organized fake reviews conducted by influential social media bloggers. Investigation found that on a major short video platform, an automotive blogger with 600,000 followers charges 18,000 yuan for 1-20 second videos, 26,000 yuan for 21-60 second content, and 38,000 yuan for videos exceeding 60 seconds. Industry insiders revealed that actual pricing for such "black commercial orders" is often much higher, with some fake reviews generating millions in profits for bloggers.

Recently, six government departments including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Cyberspace Administration of China jointly issued the "Notice on Launching Special Rectification Actions for Online Misconduct in the Automotive Industry." Starting September 2025, a three-month special campaign will target long-standing issues of online black PR, fake reviews, and malicious defamation plaguing the automotive sector, marking a new phase in China's governance of the automotive industry's online environment.

This joint departmental action will focus on combating illegal profit-making through fabricated facts and exaggerated defects, with emphasis on rectifying exaggerated and false advertising, malicious defamation, and other online misconduct.
