AI Matchmaking Service Transforms Gig Economy Job Searches

“What jobs are available for me tomorrow?” At 11 a.m. on March 17, Wang Ying, a resident of Lingshou County in Shijiazhuang, pushed open the door of the local gig market as she often does. The 35-year-old mother found herself with more free time after her child started kindergarten last year. “I wanted to take on some part-time work near home to help with household expenses,” she said.

Inside the Lingshou County gig market, staff were recommending job openings to job seekers. “Several companies have temporary work available tomorrow. Which one interests you?” Zhang Shan, the head of the gig market, opened her computer, selected Wang Ying’s information in the system, and within seconds, several suitable positions appeared on the screen.

In the past, Wang Ying could only search randomly online or join local recruitment groups, always worried about unreliable opportunities. Now, she can inquire one day and start working the next. “I’ve done tasks like handicraft packaging and cleaning. Finding work here is fast and gives me peace of mind,” she shared.

“The speed comes from our new ‘AI matchmaker’,” Zhang Shan explained with a smile. This “AI matchmaker” is an intelligent job-matching system developed by the Lingshou County gig market. Last year, inspired by the rise of various AI tools, Zhang Shan and her team wondered if AI could help people find jobs. They experimented by submitting both job seeker profiles and employer needs to an AI platform, which provided quick and accurate matches. However, concerns about personal information security soon arose.

In October last year, under the guidance and supervision of the Lingshou County Employment Service Center, they brought in technical experts to develop a dedicated AI-powered job-matching system. This system can create detailed profiles of job seekers and interpret employer requirements, enabling precise job assignments with just a click.

“We used to rely entirely on manual searches,” Zhang Shan recalled. Job seekers would register, and staff would manually compare their details against a list of employer needs—checking age, skills, and other criteria—often spending considerable time without finding a good fit. Now, with the “AI matchmaker” in place, gig workers’ job searches have shifted from “scattered hunting” to “curated selection.”

“To ensure information security, we sign agreements with both parties, guaranteeing that data is used solely for intelligent job matching,” Zhang Shan emphasized. Once both sides consent, job seeker and position details are sent to the AI system, which automatically extracts key information such as age, skills, salary expectations, job requirements, and work duration, delivering optimal matches within seconds.

For job seekers, the process has become faster and more accurate. Employers, too, find recruitment more efficient. “In the past, posting a job required dedicated monitoring. Now, the gig market handles everything seamlessly,” said Meng Tingting, a recruitment specialist at Shijiazhuang Zhentu Enterprise Management Consulting Co., Ltd. “The candidates we receive are pre-screened and well-matched, making the process very convenient.”

What employers appreciate even more is the system’s ability to meet immediate hiring needs. “Sometimes, a company may need temporary workers by the afternoon after requesting them in the morning. Such urgent orders were hard to fulfill before,” Zhang Shan noted. “Now, with a vast pool of job seeker data stored in the system, we can filter and notify candidates instantly, quickly assembling a team.”

Currently, the “AI matchmaker” system contains thousands of job listings. Since its official launch last year, it has successfully matched over a thousand job seekers with opportunities, increasing the job placement success rate by 25% compared to previous methods.
