Kwoon Chung Bus Holdings (Kwoon Chung Bus, 00306) released its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report for the financial year ended 31 March 2026, detailing progress on decarbonisation, safety, workforce management and community engagement across operations that generated about 90% of group revenue in Hong Kong.
Environment: Baseline Set for 2050 Carbon Neutrality • Total Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse-gas emissions reached 94,149.35 tCO₂e, equivalent to 37.20 tCO₂e per HK$1 million of revenue. Including measured Scope 3 categories (business travel and employee commuting) lifts the total to 95,147.08 tCO₂e. • Energy use amounted to 345,079.07 MWh, of which diesel accounted for 319,183.95 MWh; electricity purchases were 1,641.68 MWh. Energy intensity stood at 136.36 MWh per HK$1 million of revenue. • Air-pollutant outputs were 600.53 t of NOx, 0.55 t of SOx and 44.01 t of PM. • The company committed to cut Scope 1-2 emissions intensity 15% by FY2029/30 from the FY2025/26 baseline and to reach carbon neutrality in its own operations by 2050. Initial offsets of 217 tCO₂e were retired via a wind-power project in India. • Fleet upgrades continue: over 34% of buses now meet Euro VI standards; the roster includes 21 electric cars and 16 single-deck e-buses. Advanced driver-assistance systems have helped cut accident rates by about 10%.
Resource and Waste Management • Water use fell to 19,031 m³ (7.52 m³ per HK$1 million revenue). • Hazardous waste amounted to 117.41 t (liquids 109.02 t; solids 8.39 t), while non-hazardous waste totalled 58.74 t, mainly tyres. • Bus depots employ sewage-treatment and grease-trap systems; waste oil, batteries and tyres are handled by licensed contractors.
Social: Workforce, Safety and Training • Headcount rose to 3,120 (2,217 full-time, 903 part-time); staff turnover eased to 25%. • No work-related fatalities occurred, though 3,368 lost days were recorded from injuries. Safety management is underpinned by ISO 39001 and a dedicated Safety Committee. • Employees completed 18,117 training hours (average 4.64 hours each), with 86% of trainees male and 99.6% categorised as general or technical staff. • Kwoon Chung Bus honours long service; 125 employees received awards this year, including one 40-year recipient.
Governance and Supply Chain • The board retains ultimate oversight of ESG strategy, supported by an ESG Committee and Working Group. • Risk assessments integrate climate scenarios aligned with NGFS “Net Zero 2050” and “Current Policies” pathways. • Supplier base comprised 159 key vendors, 86% located in Hong Kong; environmental, social and ethical criteria are embedded in selection and annual reviews. • No material breaches were reported under anti-corruption, labour or environmental regulations.
Community Investment • Cash and in-kind contributions totalled HK$10.16 million, channelled to health, welfare and sports initiatives. • Programmes included subsidised transport for the elderly and disabled, free-ride days on National Day and Senior Citizen’s Day, and HK$1 million donated to the Tai Po Wang Fuk Court relief fund. • Continued title sponsorship of the “Kwoon Chung Southern District Football Club” and the “Kwoon Chung Southern District Charity Football Tournament” supports local sports development.
Outlook The company will monitor progress toward its 15% emissions-intensity reduction target by FY2029/30, expand low-emission fleet deployment and refine climate-risk analytics, aiming to align operations with Hong Kong’s 2050 carbon-neutral goal.
