Momenta Secures Nationwide L4 Testing Permit in Germany, Uber Boosts Investment

Momenta has received official approval from the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) to conduct L4 autonomous driving tests on urban roads across the country. This marks the first time a Chinese company has obtained such a nationwide L4 testing permit in Germany. Following the announcement, Momenta's stock price surged over 9% during intraday trading on July 29.

In 2025, Momenta entered a strategic partnership with Uber, the world's largest mobility platform, to integrate the Momenta Robotaxi into Uber's platform. The two companies subsequently designated Munich, Germany, as the launch city for the project. The newly acquired testing permit is believed to be preparatory work for expanding Uber's European operations.

During Momenta's IPO period, Uber, through its wholly-owned subsidiary SMB Holding Corporation, made an additional equity investment in Momenta. Public placement information shows that SMB received 397,600 shares in the allocation of Momenta's Hong Kong stock listing. According to Momenta's earlier prospectus, SMB had previously participated in its Series C financing round in September 2025, holding 791,055 preferred shares. This brings Uber's total ownership in Momenta to approximately 1.1887 million shares. Uber's increased investment during the IPO signals a deepening three-dimensional relationship between the two companies, combining business collaboration, capital support, and overseas expansion.
