ComfortDelGro announced initiatives on Wednesday (Jul 16) to upskill its drivers for the evolving mobility sector, particularly autonomous vehicles (AVs). This training aims to ensure drivers remain relevant while creating new career paths.
The program includes safety operator training for AVs from its Singaporean partner Moovita, alongside remote operator and fleet management training as part of an AV pilot in China. Group CEO Cheng Siak Kian emphasized that AV training is crucial for developing new capabilities and roles in next-gen mobility, committing to employee development in this growing field.
Future plans involve cross-training safety operators for various AV technologies and developing specialized AV roles like remote operators, maintenance specialists, data analysts, and fleet managers. This approach aims to enhance career opportunities and support the company's broader AV strategy.
Following the announcement, ComfortDelGro shares were trading up 0.7% at S$1.44 as at 10.27 am.
