SK Group's board of directors approved the sale of its 70.6% stake in semiconductor wafer manufacturer SK siltron to Doosan Group on July 31. The transaction is valued at approximately 2.3 trillion won (roughly 10.891 billion yuan at current exchange rates).

SK siltron holds the third-largest market share globally for 12-inch (300mm) silicon wafers. The company joined SK Group in 2017, with the remaining 29.4% of shares held personally by SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, which Doosan Group is also expected to acquire.

SK Group publicly stated that the purpose of the stake sale is to "raise funds to enhance financial stability and secure future growth drivers."

According to a separate report from South Korean media outlet The Elec on the same day, Doosan Group has decided to pay 10% of the total price as a down payment. The two parties have also agreed on a series of additional financial terms linked to SK siltron's performance, including excess profit sharing, distribution of excess returns from the wind-down of its silicon carbide business, and incentives for achieving customer project milestones.
