Amap, a subsidiary of Alibaba Group, has officially launched Amap 2026, marking a significant step forward in spatial intelligence-driven navigation technology. The new release introduces Navigation Live, a next-generation navigation experience, alongside upgraded AI dialogue capabilities, a global map service, and an expanded safety alert system.

Building on the AI Navigation Assistant introduced in 2025, which applied spatial intelligence to road environment perception, Navigation Live pushes the boundaries further in 2026. This new feature integrates visual, location, road, and traffic data to understand the user's real-time surroundings and continuously respond to needs based on current position and navigation status. While driving, it can detect changes in the road environment, such as recognizing and alerting users to upcoming construction zones. If a user needs to make an impromptu change of plans or find a convenient stop along the way, they can simply speak their request without exiting the navigation screen. Navigation Live will then adjust the route based on the current location and the driver's needs. In situations where GPS signals are weak or orientation is unclear, the system can use the camera to identify nearby buildings, intersections, and other environmental cues to help recalibrate the position and provide directional guidance. When touring scenic areas, Navigation Live can also identify historical monuments and unique landscapes, offering immediate background information and cultural context.

The upgraded Amap AI Dialogue builds on the natural language processing, spatial reasoning, and map service capabilities introduced with Amap 2025, now with a sharper focus on complex pre-trip planning. By combining the large model's reasoning power with Amap's extensive data on places, routes, traffic conditions, and time estimates, the AI can break down vague requests into concrete steps such as locating destinations, planning routes, and calculating travel times, adapting these plans as conditions change to deliver actionable itineraries. Furthermore, the AI Dialogue can now tap into a newly introduced "Lightning Protection" feature, which uses real-time data and spatial-temporal reasoning to validate trip plans. This tool checks a journey against 15 different dimensions, including business hours, itinerary pacing, parking availability, and projected congestion, proactively flagging potential issues like time conflicts, heavy traffic, or closed venues to ensure users avoid wasted trips and idle waiting.

Within Amap 2026, the Hawk-Eye Guardian alert system has expanded to cover four new cycling scenarios, increasing its coverage of potential traffic risks from 24 to 28 categories. As of August 31, 2026, the Hawk-Eye system has issued over 62.9 billion cumulative alerts since its launch, averaging 186 million alerts per day. In parallel, Amap has broadened its spatial intelligence capabilities to a global scale. Since its debut in 2023, Amap's World Map service now covers over 200 countries and regions, supports driving, cycling, walking, and public transit navigation, and offers services in 78 languages. Its international ride-hailing service is now available in over 1,000 cities across 47 countries and regions. Additionally, Amap's lane-level navigation is now live in these areas, leveraging precise rendering of road structures, lane configurations, and traffic regulations for enhanced guidance.
