Digimarc Unveils Infrastructure for Tracing and Verifying Autonomous AI Workflows

Digimarc Corporation has announced the launch of a new tracing and verification infrastructure designed to provide trusted identity authentication for the increasingly prevalent autonomous AI workflows, addressing the security and auditing challenges enterprises face when deploying agentic AI.

As businesses increasingly adopt AI systems capable of generating content, orchestrating workflows, and executing tasks with minimal human intervention, establishing credible traceability and verifiable authenticity is becoming critical. Digimarc's new infrastructure helps organizations determine whether the digital content and artifacts produced or consumed by AI agents are trustworthy before these agents perform downstream operations.

According to the OWASP Top 10 Security Risks for Agentic Applications 2026 report, artifact integrity, supply chain vulnerabilities, and audit non-repudiation are listed among the greatest risks for agentic deployments. Without cryptographically verifiable records, enterprises cannot confidently audit agent behavior, meet emerging regulatory requirements, or effectively prevent tampering and manipulation.

Digimarc's solution is built on the C2PA open standard, which is widely adopted by organizations such as Adobe, Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI for content provenance and authenticity. Digimarc integrates tracing, verification, and auditing capabilities into a standards-based trust layer for AI workflows, specifically extending trust enforcement functions for agentic environments. Each provenance stamp is policy-gated and issued only when the agent identity, artifact integrity, and request timing all meet defined trust criteria.

At the core of this release is a new MCP server that enables systems and orchestration frameworks to stamp, verify, log, audit, and retrieve provenance information through MCP-compatible interfaces. By exposing provenance as a native capability of modern workflow architectures, enterprises can introduce trusted verification and traceability directly into content and automation pipelines without managing the underlying cryptographic infrastructure themselves.

This MCP server is powered by Digimarc's Illuminate platform and the company's decades of experience in identity authentication, watermarking, and trusted recognition technologies. For workflows requiring additional persistence, Digimarc can combine C2PA manifests with its watermarking technology to help maintain provenance continuity even if metadata is altered or removed during processing.

Ken Sickles, Chief Product Officer at Digimarc, stated, "The advent of the agentic AI era is outpacing the trust infrastructure supporting it. Enterprises are deploying self-service agents that produce, consume, and act at machine speed, yet most lack reliable methods to verify whether the content these agents interact with is authentic, untampered, and attributable. Gartner predicts that by 2028, 25% of enterprise AI applications will experience multiple security-related incidents annually. We built this solution because provenance cannot be retrofitted; it must be atomically integrated with the agent's work, enforced at runtime, and verifiable by anyone downstream."

Digimarc is launching this initiative alongside a group of early building partners and platform collaborators to help shape practical use cases and prioritize future roadmap developments. Key focus areas include trusted content workflows, provenance verification, and managed traceability across emerging automation ecosystems.
