Industry sources report that Samsung Electronics has finalized plans to increase production of its Galaxy Z Fold8 by 1 million units this year, placing orders for related components with partners. The company had initially set an annual production target of 2.8 million units for the Fold8, the highest among its Galaxy Z8 series, anticipating strong sales. In comparison, the Fold8 Ultra is expected to produce around 2 million units, while the Flip8 is set at about 1.5 million units.

With this additional 1 million units, the total production volume for the Fold8 is now projected to reach 3.8 million units, approaching 4 million. This marks the second time Samsung has increased production for a foldable phone series, following a similar move for the Fold7 last year. Previously, actual demand for Samsung's foldable phones rarely exceeded initial plans.

The Galaxy Z Fold8, launched on July 22, is the first Android phone with a wide-folding design. It features a shorter, wider body compared to previous Galaxy Z Fold models, focusing on enhanced video and entertainment experiences. The starting price in China is 12,999 yuan.

Samsung reported that during the pre-sale period from July 28 to August 4, the Galaxy Z8 series achieved 1.44 million units in pre-orders, setting a new record for the company's smartphone lineup. The Fold8 alone accounted for 70% of these sales, which is the primary reason Samsung has focused its production increase on this model.
