During the visit of the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam to the United States, multiple Vietnamese airlines signed agreements to purchase nearly 100 Boeing aircraft. The announcements were made ahead of the inaugural meeting of the "Peace Committee" initiated by former US President Donald Trump. On February 19, officials from both the US and Vietnam, including the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, witnessed the signing ceremony in Washington, D.C. The agreements were signed by Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, and Dang Ngoc Hoa, Chairman of the Board of Vietnam Airlines.

On Thursday, during the visit of the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam to Washington, D.C., three Vietnamese airlines announced deals to purchase nearly 100 Boeing aircraft. The agreements involve Vietnam Airlines, Sun Group's newly established Sun富国 Airlines, and Vietjet Air, representing one of the largest civil aviation orders disclosed by Vietnamese carriers to date.

Vietnam Airlines finalized an order for 50 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, with a total value of $8 billion. This transaction was initially announced in 2023. Sun富国 Airlines, a newly established carrier by Vietnam's Sun Group, signed an agreement to purchase 40 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. The airline is set to commence operations in November 2025. This $22.5 billion order is the largest wide-body aircraft order in Vietnam's history and marks the carrier's first direct purchase from Boeing. In a statement, Dang Minh Trang, Chairman of Sun Group, indicated that these aircraft will support the expansion of long-haul routes and help develop Phu Quoc Island, where the group operates major tourism projects, into an international tourist destination. Vietjet Air secured a financing agreement worth $965 million through Griffin Global Asset Management to acquire 6 Boeing 737 aircraft. Vietjet Air stated that this agreement "represents a significant step in the company's strategy to diversify international financing channels and enhance financial strength and capital structure in line with global standards."

These announcements were made prior to the General Secretary's attendance at the first meeting of former President Donald Trump's "Peace Committee," an initiative aimed at addressing global conflicts. In a post on Truth Social on Sunday, Donald Trump stated that at least 20 member countries had committed over $5 billion for humanitarian and reconstruction efforts in Gaza and would deploy a thousands-strong international stability force to assist in managing the war-torn region.
