On November 26, Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao held a video discussion with Maroš Šefčovič, the European Commission's Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security, addressing trade and economic issues including Nexperia.

Wang emphasized that the current disruption in the global semiconductor supply chain stems from actions taken by the Netherlands. He stated that the Chinese government has consistently acted responsibly by implementing timely and practical measures to stabilize and restore the semiconductor supply chain. While the Netherlands recently suspended its administrative order—a small step toward resolving the issue—its improper administrative and judicial interventions against companies remain unresolved. The global semiconductor supply chain continues to face significant uncertainty. Wang urged the EU to play a constructive role in pressing the Dutch government to propose viable solutions and create favorable conditions for corporate negotiations.

Šefčovič acknowledged the substantial efforts made by China’s Ministry of Commerce in mitigating the Nexperia issue, preventing a full-blown crisis in the semiconductor supply chain. He noted that while the matter remains unresolved, the EU is willing to collaborate with China to further de-escalate tensions.

Both sides agreed that companies should take the lead in resolving the Nexperia dispute. They pledged to jointly encourage constructive dialogue between Nexperia’s Dutch and Chinese entities to establish a long-term solution and restore stability to the global semiconductor supply chain. The discussion also covered broader topics, including China-EU export controls.
