On January 6, the "Xin Yangzi 536," the first newly built ultra-large container ship on the main line of the Yangtze River, safely departed from Jingjiang, Taizhou, heading to designated waters in the East China Sea to commence its sea trials, marking a successful start to the new year for Taizhou's shipbuilding industry.

Built by Jiangsu Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group Co., the "Xin Yangzi 536" has an overall length of 274 meters, a width of 45.6 meters, a depth of 24.2 meters, and a maximum air draft of 49.69 meters. The vessel utilizes methanol dual-fuel propulsion and is equipped with an integrated energy-saving propulsion system, which optimizes fuel consumption while enhancing sailing speed. Currently, Jiangsu Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group holds orders for a total of 22 vessels of this type; the "Xin Yangzi 536," being the first of its class, is expected to generate $2.641 billion in foreign exchange earnings.

Due to the vessel's large dimensions, which require extensive waterway space and present high maneuvering challenges during navigation, the Taizhou Maritime Safety Administration coordinated with maritime agencies from Jiangyin, Zhangjiagang, Nantong, Changshu, and Taicang. The operation involved continuous key monitoring by four vessel traffic service centers, constant escort by one patrol vessel, and seamless support from ten additional patrol vessels, providing comprehensive护航 for the "Xin Yangzi 536's" sea trials. Statistics show that in 2025, the Taizhou Maritime Safety Administration safely facilitated sea trials for 148 newly built vessels, a year-on-year increase of 6.5%, among which 65 were large vessels over 205 meters in length, representing a 27.4% increase and setting a new historical record.
