In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the CPC Central Secretariat, a special exhibition titled "'Reserved for the Future' – Joint Exhibition of Early Central Organs' Archival Documents in Jing'an" is currently being held at the Memorial Hall of the CPC Central Secretariat's Former Office Site in Shanghai. The exhibition showcases over 60 archival documents and images spanning more than 100 pages, combining precious materials already displayed in Jing'an's red heritage venues with nearly 30 newly discovered and first-time publicly exhibited items.

Hidden within an ordinary Shikumen-style building, the CPC Central Secretariat once safeguarded the Party's core secrets, including over a dozen boxes of central archive documents, each page bearing life-and-death significance. The term "Reserved for the Future" originates from Qu Qiubai's "Document Handling Measures," drafted to protect the central archives, which stands as the Party's first guiding document on archival work. In his final annotation, Qu Qiubai wrote, "If possible, the ideal would be two copies of each—one for reference and one for archival storage, reserved for the future Party History Committee."

Established in July 1926 in Shanghai, the Central Secretariat functioned as the most direct, extensive, and critical comprehensive administrative body serving the Party Central Committee. The Memorial Hall, completed in June 2023 at No. 10, Lane 673, Jiangning Road in Jing'an District, now houses this exhibition. Among the newly unveiled archival materials is the "Work Regulations of the Organization Bureau," dated December 1929, which provides detailed classifications of routine central organ work, breaking down duties across departments including the Secretariat, Organization Department, and Propaganda Department, covering areas such as liaison, reception, transportation, funding, translation, mimeography, statistics, outreach, education, and training.

The exhibition also features recordings of Luo Zhanglong's later-life poetry and oral accounts about Sanzengli, documented by his daughter. These texts offer visitors insights into the relationships among Party history figures, their work rhythms, and the operational realities of organizational structures. Jing'an District played a pivotal role as one of the core areas of early CPC activities, with over 20 central organs—including the Central Bureau after the Third National Congress, the Central Military Commission, the Central Special Operations Department, the Central Secretariat, and the Central Organization Department—established there between 1921 and 1933.

The exhibition is meticulously divided into four thematic sections: Original Aspirations and Missions, Leadership Charisma, Underground Flames, and Heroic Sacrifice, organizing 20 groups across four categories. Through the details of archival documents, down to punctuation marks, the organizers aim to restore the authentic historical landscape. Looking ahead, the Jing'an District Party History Research Office plans to advance the substantive operations of the "Research Center for Early Central Organs in Shanghai," using scholarly research to bolster heritage preservation and utilization.
