Strait of Hormuz Shipping Disruption Slows Qatar's Ras Laffan LNG Exports

Ship-tracking data indicates that exports from Qatar's Ras Laffan liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility have declined after hitting a peak earlier this month, due to obstacles preventing LNG carriers from transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

The data reveals that the ten-day moving average of LNG exports from the plant stood at approximately 36,600 tonnes on Thursday, marking the lowest level since June 23rd.

According to vessel data, one ship is currently docked at the Ras Laffan port, indicating that exports have not come to a complete halt.

Note: Qatar is currently operating the Ras Laffan facility at reduced capacity, with the ability to quickly ramp up production once shipping through the Strait of Hormuz resumes. Some LNG has been pre-loaded onto vessels to alleviate pressure on storage tanks.

A total of 13 empty LNG carriers are currently assembled and awaiting orders in the vicinity of the Ras Laffan port area.
