ICBC Pioneers RMB Interest Rate Swap Tied to DR-Based Loans in Market First

Industrial And Commercial Bank Of China Limited has recently rolled out loans priced against the Deposit Rate (DR) benchmark across key regions including Hainan, Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Beijing. In a bid to further address corporate demand for interest rate risk management, the bank has introduced an innovative product combination of "DR-based loans plus interest rate swaps," executing the market's inaugural batch of RMB interest rate swap transactions linked to DR benchmark loans.

The DR rate refers to the bond repurchase rate among depository financial institutions in the interbank market, which is determined entirely by market trading. Its primary variants include the overnight rate (DR001) and the seven-day rate (DR007). While DR benchmark loan pricing aligns more closely with prevailing market funding costs, it also imposes greater demands on clients' capacity to manage interest rate risk.

To address corporate needs, ICBC has taken a proactive approach, tailoring risk management strategies based on the volatility characteristics of the DR benchmark rate and factoring in clients' operational and borrowing requirements. The bank has rolled out a customized product portfolio, successfully executing the first batch of client-driven RMB interest rate swaps for a leading logistics and equipment manufacturing enterprise in Shenzhen, thereby helping the firm lock in its financing costs.

Looking ahead, Industrial And Commercial Bank Of China Limited aims to further amplify its role as a leading major bank, continuously expanding market-based loan pricing tools and strengthening comprehensive financial support. Through more complete, high-quality, and professional services, the bank is committed to providing robust backing for the high-quality development of the real economy.
