On August 16th, in the corn fields of Dahe Village, Nanhe District, Xingtai City, Hebei Province, rows of corn plants stood tall and uniform. Large-scale grain grower Han Kunjie was using a crop protection drone to carry out a "one-spray, multiple-promotion" operation on his corn. "One drone can cover five to six hundred mu in a single day. With 2,000 mu of land, two drones can finish the job in just two or three days, saving time, labor, and effort," Han said. He noted that traditional manual spraying of pesticides and foliar fertilizers often led to uneven coverage and low efficiency. Now, the crop protection drone, equipped with a precision atomization spraying system, evenly applies insecticides, fungicides, and foliar nutrient regulators onto the corn plants, completing pest and disease control, preventing premature aging, and promoting grain filling in one pass—giving the corn a wholesome "nutritious meal."
Currently, the corn in Nanhe District has entered the grain-filling stage, a critical period for yield formation and also a peak time for pest and disease outbreaks. The "one-spray, multiple-promotion" technique is a key method for ensuring stable and increased corn yields. By applying a single spray, it achieves multiple effects: preventing pests and diseases, promoting grain filling, increasing kernel weight, and raising overall yield per unit area. To combat pests and diseases and boost autumn grain growth, local agronomic technicians have been going deep into the fields to teach farmers methods for preventing and controlling corn pests and diseases, as well as explaining the key points of integrated water and fertilizer irrigation technology. "We are promoting the 'one-spray, multiple-promotion' technique to ensure that measures for stable and increased corn yields are effectively implemented, and we are making every effort to secure a bountiful autumn grain harvest," said Wen Chunshuang, an agrotechnical promotion researcher at the Agricultural and Rural Bureau of Nanhe District, Xingtai City. As a crucial technology for grain production, "one-spray, multiple-promotion" combines the multiple benefits of unified pest and disease control, weight increase and grain-filling promotion, stress resistance and premature aging prevention, and stronger stalks and lodging resistance into a single application. At the same time, the combined application of potassium dihydrogen phosphate and amino acid foliar fertilizers can extend the photosynthetic function period of leaves, promote crop growth, and raise the yield per unit area.
Autumn grain output accounts for more than 60% of the province's total annual grain production, making pest and disease control vital to achieving stable and increased grain yields. The province continues to advance the "grain protection from pests" campaign, carrying out pest control for autumn crops, intensifying pest monitoring networks, conducting routine field surveys, and promptly issuing pest early warning information. Keeping a close eye on critical prevention windows for pests and diseases such as the corn borer and southern corn rust, various regions are vigorously developing unified prevention and control as well as green prevention methods, strictly preventing large-scale regional outbreaks of major pests and diseases. As a traditionally major agricultural county, Wuyi County has this year integrated 12 large-scale aerial prevention organizations, deploying over 120 professional crop protection drones. Based on the cultivated land area and service radius of each township, it has built an integrated crop protection network of "county-level coordination + village-level connection + organizational operations," comprehensively advancing the unified prevention and control operations of the "one-spray, multiple-promotion" technique.
With field management keeping pace, there is confidence in a good harvest. With the goal of "increasing yield per unit and ensuring a bumper harvest," the province has made summer-sown corn the main focus, organizing experts to formulate technical plans for water and fertilizer management and pest and disease control of summer corn. Focusing on 34 whole-county advancement counties for corn, 2 for soybeans, the whole-city advancement initiative in Handan City, and 14 counties with corn yield improvement projects, the province is building a number of thousand-mu demonstration fields and ten-thousand-mu demonstration zones to establish high-yield models. At the same time, the province is organizing provincial-level industry system experts and agrotechnicians to go into villages and households for on-site guidance, focusing on implementing measures such as scientific water and fertilizer regulation and pest and disease control, and continuously tapping into the potential for higher yields. Utilizing central government funds and provincial special funds for the corn "one-spray, multiple-promotion" operation, and implementing the "one county, one policy" approach, the province is pushing high-yield technologies directly to the fields.
