Shares of Clorox Co. (CLX) plummeted 9.18% during intraday trading on Friday. The sharp decline represents a significant continuation of pre-market losses for the cleaning products maker.

The stock's steep drop followed the company's decision to significantly lower its full-year profit guidance. Clorox now expects annual adjusted earnings per share in the range of $5.45 to $5.65, down notably from its previous forecast of $5.95 to $6.30. The company cited multiple headwinds for the revision, including weaker consumer demand for its cleaning products as households reduce discretionary spending. Furthermore, significantly higher energy, fuel, and freight costs, linked to geopolitical tensions including the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran, are pressuring margins. Integration costs related to its recent acquisition of GOJO Industries, the maker of Purell, are adding further financial strain.

The downward guidance revision prompted several analyst firms to cut their price targets on the stock. J.P. Morgan reduced its target to $95 from $99, calling the quarterly results "fundamentally disappointing with greater-than-expected costs." Other firms including Barclays, Deutsche Bank, UBS, and Morgan Stanley also lowered their targets, reflecting a dimmer outlook for the company's near-term profitability amid the challenging operating environment.
