Anthropic has reportedly informed its investors that it intends to secure approximately 5 gigawatts of available computing capacity by the end of this year, signaling an acceleration of its expansion strategy as the artificial intelligence company prepares for a potential initial public offering (IPO).

According to the report, Anthropic expects to roughly double this computing capability again by the end of next year. Citing sources familiar with the matter, the company boasted around 1.5 gigawatts of available capacity as of last year, highlighting a significant ramp-up in its infrastructure plans.

A representative for Anthropic has not yet responded to requests for comment on these figures. The developer of the popular AI chatbot Claude has become one of the largest buyers of data center computing power in the industry, positioning itself as a major player in the booming AI infrastructure market.

In recent months, the company has sealed agreements with several cloud service providers, including a $50 billion deal with Fluidstack and a commitment to spend $45 billion leasing computing capacity from Nscale for a project based in West Virginia, underscoring its aggressive push to lock in the resources needed for future AI development.
