New data from the independent automotive research firm New AutoMotive, released on the 3rd, reveals that UK new car registrations in June increased by 15% year-on-year, reaching 215,921 units. This growth is attributed to high international oil prices driving consumer transition.

Within this total, the pure electric vehicle (BEV) segment demonstrated robust performance. BEV registrations surged by 38% year-on-year to 64,440 units, with their market share now approaching 30%.

The figures indicate that June marked a historically strong month for UK pure electric vehicle sales, even outside of typical seasonal peak periods. Among major automotive brands, leading players saw a noticeable increase in market share.

The US electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla registered 12,403 pure electric vehicles in the UK during June, a significant 42% increase year-on-year, highlighting a resurgence in its European market demand. Concurrently, the Chinese automotive brand BYD recorded 2,999 registrations, a 9% year-on-year rise, maintaining its steady growth momentum.

Industry analysts note that rising traditional fuel costs are currently a primary driver of structural transformation within the UK automotive market. As new models are introduced at an accelerated pace and consumer acceptance of new energy vehicles continues to improve, clean energy vehicles, represented by pure electric models, are becoming the core engine for the recovery of the UK automotive industry.
