Chengdu's Spaceship Builder: Why He Insists on Going to Space

Speaking about future space travel, Li Zeqi, founder of Chengdu Fujiang Industry, gave a firm answer: "I must go up."

While participating in the construction of a crewed spacecraft test module, he has also signed up as a space tourist. Why is this reserve space traveler, bearing the number 014, so determined to put himself on the future passenger list?

In Wenjiang, Chengdu, reporters saw the full-scale test module of the "Chuanyuezhe No. 1," developed by Beijing Chuanyuezhe and manufactured with the participation of Fujiang Industry. The module weighs about 5 tons and was released from a height of more than 3 meters. How can the impact upon landing be reduced?

Li Zeqi mentioned a detail: during the test, an egg placed inside the module remained intact after landing. Behind this egg lies a technical challenge that will determine whether ordinary people can return to the ground safely in the future.

However, moving from a test module to crewed flight still requires passing through many more hurdles. Beyond landing cushioning, how can the crew escape if a malfunction occurs during launch? What further verifications are needed before actual crewed flight? A single successful test still leaves a long road ahead before true space travel becomes a reality.

Li Zeqi said that putting himself on the future passenger list is also a way to push himself to improve every design and every manufacturing detail. He also hopes that the feelings and data he gains from firsthand experience in the future can provide a basis for subsequent improvements.

Follow the camera to hear the answers from this manufacturing participant and reserve space traveler, and to see his persistence as well as the barriers that must be crossed on the path to space.
