Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda indicated that CIA Director John Ratcliffe's visit to Moscow on Tuesday was likely intended to defuse geopolitical tensions in the region. Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Nauseda said Lithuania anticipates that partner nations "may brief us next week" on the discussions, though he declined to speculate on the specific objectives of the talks.

He stated, "I only believe that this meeting was indeed about lowering geopolitical tensions in our region. That is positive." The rare trip to Moscow by the CIA chief follows warnings from intelligence officials that Russian intelligence and security agencies are examining options for hybrid warfare operations against Baltic states and Poland, which could include sabotage of infrastructure or false-flag operations.

Europe has recently faced a series of unexpected incidents, including armed drone incursions, assassination attempts, and unexplained arson attacks. These actions may be intended to intimidate key nations supplying weapons and funding to Kyiv. Sources familiar with the matter previously confirmed that the CIA director traveled to Russia on Tuesday for talks, though the details of those discussions remain undisclosed. The CIA has declined to comment.

Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs on Wednesday declined to address specifics about Ratcliffe's aircraft stopping over in Riga, only noting that U.S. and Latvian intelligence agencies are working in close coordination.
