McDonald's is set to have company veteran Skye Anderson take over its U.S. business on Tuesday, as the fast-food giant works to attract value-conscious diners in its largest market.

McDonald's CEO Chris Kempczinski stated in a release, "I look forward to working closely with her and the U.S. leadership team to accelerate our performance and capture the significant opportunities ahead. I am confident she is the right person to lead the U.S. business into its next chapter."

Earlier this year, Anderson was named Chief Operating Officer for McDonald's in the United States. Prior to that, she led the company's global business services division, which was created to boost operational efficiency and leverage the scale of the restaurant chain. Company records show she also spent four years running McDonald's U.S. West division, where she increased average cash flow per restaurant by $100,000 and drove same-store sales growth of over 30%.

Anderson has been with McDonald's for 26 years. Kempczinski noted, "I have had the opportunity to work closely with Skye for most of her career. I have repeatedly entrusted her with our most critical business units and transformation initiatives because she is a proven change agent who can mobilize the entire system with speed."

She will succeed Joe Erlinger, who has held the role for more than six years. Erlinger will remain as an advisor until early 2027.

McDonald's also released its second-quarter earnings on Tuesday. The company's profit exceeded Wall Street expectations, but revenue fell short of analyst estimates. U.S. same-store sales grew by just 0.8%, and traffic at domestic locations declined during the quarter.

Overall, McDonald's has outperformed its U.S. rivals by leveraging value meal deals and stronger marketing campaigns to attract diners. However, previous blockbuster promotions, such as last year's tie-in with the Minecraft movie, mean the burger chain must constantly top its past successes to sustain same-store sales growth.

In early June, McDonald's unveiled a new growth strategy aimed at becoming the consumers' first choice. The plan includes product innovation for enhanced taste and quality, insights into how consumers interact with the brand, and a new restaurant design.
