Trump Warns of Striking Iranian Power Plants and Bridges if Strait of Hormuz Remains Closed

U.S. President Donald Trump intensified pressure on Iran on Sunday, threatening in a social media post filled with harsh language to target Iranian power plants and bridges by Tuesday if the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz is not reopened.

“Tuesday will be Iran’s power plant day and bridge day, all in one. Unprecedented!” Trump posted on Truth Social, referring to the critical shipping waterway that Iran has effectively blocked since U.S. and Israeli forces launched strikes against the country over a month ago.

“Open the damn strait, you maniacs, or you will live in hell—just watch!” he added.

Later on Sunday, Trump provided a more specific deadline in a follow-up post: “8 p.m. Eastern Time on Tuesday!”

The White House did not respond to reporters’ inquiries about whether Trump’s statement indicated that the U.S. would launch an attack on Iran at that time.

Earlier, U.S. forces conducted a tense 48-hour rescue operation inside Iran to save two American pilots. Trump said in an earlier social media post on Sunday that the second rescued pilot was “seriously injured” and described as a “highly respected colonel.”

“This rescue is an Easter miracle,” Trump stated before heading to the Washington Golf Club. “There has never been a rescue like this in such hostile enemy territory.”

In at least seven interviews on Sunday, Trump continued to threaten Iran, demanding concessions. He claimed that Iran is negotiating and a deal could be reached by Monday; if not, he would “seize” Iranian oil. During the interviews, Trump asserted that the conflict should end within days, not weeks, or else “we will level the entire country,” with “almost no target” off-limits.

Trump also announced online that he will hold a joint press conference with U.S. military officials in the Oval Office on Monday.

Last week, Trump indicated that the U.S. would launch a major strike against Iran within the next two to three weeks and is close to achieving the primary strategic objectives of the current conflict. Since the operation began on February 28, he has repeatedly claimed that Iran wants to reach a deal, despite no visible willingness from Iranian leadership to comply with Trump’s demands.

On Sunday, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard warned that if civilian targets in Iran are attacked again, it will intensify strikes against U.S. economic interests in the region.

Trump’s Focus on Iranian Infrastructure

Before his Easter warning about targeting power plants and bridges, Trump had threatened to strike desalination plants—a move that some international legal experts say could violate international humanitarian law.

Since the U.S.-Israeli war began over a month ago, 13 U.S. military personnel have been killed and hundreds injured in the Middle East.

In response, Iran has blockaded the Strait of Hormuz, which is crucial for global oil transport, causing a sharp rise in oil and gasoline prices for consumers worldwide. According to the American Automobile Association (AAA), the average U.S. gasoline price reached $4.11 per gallon on Sunday, up from less than $3 per gallon before the strikes on Iran began.
