Emperador Inc. details stock transaction tax procedures for SGX trades

Emperador Inc. (EMI) has reiterated that sales of its shares on Singapore Exchange Securities Trading Limited are subject to a 0.1% stock transaction tax (STT) on the gross selling price or gross value in money of each trade, a rate that will formally take effect on Jul, 01 2025 following the Capital Markets Efficiency Promotion Act.

The STT is a final tax payable by the seller and must be withheld and remitted to the Philippines Bureau of Internal Revenue by the selling stockbroker. To facilitate compliance, BDO Securities Corporation has been appointed as the receiving and remitting agent for Singapore brokers that elect to channel payments through it.

As at the date of the announcement, 17 Singapore brokers—including CGS-CIMB Securities (Singapore) Pte. Ltd., Citigroup Global Markets Singapore Securities Pte. Ltd., DBS Vickers Securities (Singapore) Pte. Ltd., JP Morgan Securities Singapore Private Limited and UBS Securities Pte. Ltd.—have been onboarded with BDO. Brokers may also choose to settle the tax through alternative avenues, such as their Philippine-affiliated entities.

If a broker terminates its arrangement with the receiving agent or if the agent ceases to act in that capacity, the broker must implement an alternative remittance process before it can continue facilitating trades in Emperador shares. Sellers using brokers without an effective STT remittance channel may be temporarily unable to trade EMI stock on the SGX.

Emperador advises investors to consult their tax and legal advisers, and to confirm with their brokers any additional fees or charges that may arise from the STT payment process. Detailed guidance is available on the company’s website and in its introductory document dated Jun, 20 2022.
