OpenAI announced on Thursday that its non-profit parent company will continue to oversee the organization and will hold more than $100 billion in equity.
The artificial intelligence startup, recently valued at $500 billion, stated that this structure will make the non-profit organization "one of the world's most well-resourced charitable organizations" and will enable the company to continue raising funds.
OpenAI Chairman Bret Taylor wrote in a statement: "This structure reaffirms that our core mission remains ensuring that AGI benefits all of humanity. Our Public Benefit Corporation (PBC) charter and governance mechanisms will make clear that safety decisions must always be guided by this mission."
