A suspect has been apprehended in a fraud case involving a fabricated gold purchasing scheme, according to law enforcement officials.

The Criminal Investigation Brigade's Yaomeng Task Force in Yanhu District arrested Wu, a suspect accused of defrauding a victim of 100,000 yuan under the guise of offering gold purchasing services.

Wu reportedly served as a store manager at a gold shop in Shandong Province between 2022 and 2024, before resigning to run an independent gold purchasing business. Due to volatile gold market prices, the venture incurred significant losses, leaving Wu burdened with substantial debts.

In June 2025, Wu was introduced to the victim, surnamed Wang, through a mutual acquaintance. To bridge her financial shortfall, Wu falsely claimed she still held the position of store manager at a jewelry store in Shandong, asserting she had access to internal procurement channels that could secure gold at below-market rates.

After agreeing on a price, Wang transferred 100,000 yuan as requested but never received the promised gold. Investigators determined that the funds were entirely used by Wu to settle previous debts stemming from her gold purchasing activities and to buy gold jewelry for others.

Wu has been formally detained on suspicion of fraud, and the case is now under legal processing.
