In a move to enhance rider welfare, Meituan has initiated full payment of occupational injury insurance premiums for its delivery riders across China starting this July. The policy ensures coverage for every order and every rider, extending to those in the Tibet Autonomous Region.

On July 10th, riders in Lhasa gathered at a Meituan delivery station for an informational session on the new occupational injury protection scheme. The platform now fully covers the insurance costs per delivery, with riders not required to pay any fees themselves. Coverage is automatically generated by the system when a rider registers and accepts an order.

"Previously, the biggest worry was getting into an accident while delivering, and the insurance process was complicated. Now with this occupational injury protection, I feel much more secure," said Mr. Liu, a rider from Lhasa. According to a company representative, if an accident occurs during a delivery, riders can quickly initiate the claims process with a single click in the app.

The event also included information on pension insurance subsidy policies. Jiang Haibo, a 45-year-old rider in Lhasa, recently received a pension subsidy of 706.62 yuan from the platform. Having started contributing to a pension plan in March, he receives a monthly subsidy. "It's over 700 yuan a month now, which adds up to more than 9,000 yuan a year. Having a pension gives me security for when I'm older," Jiang stated.

Riders in Lhasa who meet the conditions can now enroll in pension insurance, with the platform subsidizing 50% of the contribution costs. This significantly lowers the barrier for riders to participate in social security schemes.
