The railway weaves through the region's rugged gullies and ridges, accelerating the export of local agricultural products and linking the area's red tourism resources into a cohesive chain.
Today, Yan'an is a city of lush greenery, with vegetation coverage reaching 87.6%, earning it the designation of a national forest city. Leveraging its 445 historical red sites, including Pagoda Hill, the city has introduced immersive performances such as "Yan'an Nursery" and "Return to Yan'an." In 2025, it welcomed over 50 million domestic and international visitors. This former revolutionary base, once defined by its arid yellow-earth ravines, has been transformed into a thriving, livable, business-friendly, and tourist-ready metropolis.
