BHP Billiton PLC Chairman Ross McEwan stated that nearly all of the company's products are sold to Asia, so the U.S.-Iran conflict has minimal short-term impact on its operations.

"We run scenarios for a range of situations," McEwan said on Tuesday at a business summit in Sydney. "We assess the potential impacts, but beyond responding, there is little else we can do."

McEwan noted that approximately 95% of BHP's mineral products are ultimately sold to Asia, where trade routes remain open. However, he anticipates some disruption to certain routes passing through the Middle East.

He also mentioned that BHP has significant mining opportunities in Argentina, Canada, and Australia.

"We have room to grow," he said. If attractive acquisition opportunities arise that are beneficial to shareholders, "we will give it a try."
