Zoom founder and CEO Eric Yuan believes artificial intelligence (AI) assistants will eventually enable a shorter workweek. Speaking at the TechCrunch Disrupt 2025 conference on Monday, Yuan discussed Zoom's integration of AI into its video conferencing platform, including a "digital twin" feature where AI avatars can speak on behalf of users.

Yuan revealed that he has already begun using his AI avatar during earnings calls with investors this year, demonstrating the technology's potential to "break communication barriers."

At the conference, the executive emphasized that Zoom has dedicated significant time to discussing AI and identifying the right products to bring to market. When asked about his investment focus, Yuan responded, "AI, AI, and AI." The company has held lengthy strategic meetings on the topic, convinced of AI's potential to transform work dynamics.

Beyond serving as an alternative to video calls, Yuan highlighted multiple use cases for AI companions. He envisioned a future scenario where two corporate executives negotiating a contract via Zoom could rely on their digital twins to draft initial terms, reducing lengthy discussions.

Yuan also explained how AI could assist with email management by screening messages, identifying priorities, and determining which require responses. Additionally, he sees AI enhancing Zoom's broader solution suite, which includes online whiteboards and collaborative documents.

"Today, I need to manually track all these products to get work done. Eventually, AI will help," Yuan said. "By doing so, we won't need to work five days a week anymore, right?... In five years, maybe three or four days a week. That's the goal," he added.
