Hong Kong Stocks Open Lower: Hang Seng Index Drops 0.74%, Tech Stocks Slump, Gold Shares Weaken

US markets closed lower overnight, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average, S&P 500, and Nasdaq falling 0.68%, 0.75%, and 1.13% respectively. Iran's President Pezeshkian stated that the country will not surrender in a war with the US, but believes diplomatic efforts could end the conflict. Additionally, Iran's National Security chief said the Strait of Hormuz will not reopen until Iran's conditions are met, keeping Middle East tensions elevated and pushing oil prices higher.

Hong Kong's three major indices opened lower today, with the Hang Seng Index starting the session down 0.74% at 24,649.45 points. The Hang Seng Tech Index slipped 0.78%, while the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index lost 0.7%.

Across sectors, internet and tech stocks saw broad declines, with Baidu Inc (ASX: BIDU), Lenovo Group Ltd (ASX: LNVGY), Tencent Holdings Ltd (ASX: TCEHY), and Alibaba Group Holding Ltd (ASX: BABA) all falling more than 1%. Semiconductor and memory-related names opened weaker, with GigaDevice Semiconductor Inc dropping over 2%. Gold shares continued their downward trend, as Zijin Gold International lost more than 1%. Chinese brokerage stocks also weakened, with GF Securities Co Ltd declining over 1%.
