The Ministry of Transport has outlined key objectives for the nation's 15th Five-Year Plan period, with a focus on modernizing the comprehensive transportation system.

Deputy Minister Xu Chengguang announced at a press conference that the overarching goal for this period is to essentially establish a modern, integrated transport framework.

A significant aspect of optimizing the transport structure involves prioritizing the renewal and digital transformation of transportation infrastructure.

By 2030, the plan calls for the renovation and upgrade of approximately 80,000 kilometers of existing facilities.

Concurrently, a new round of rural road enhancement initiatives will be launched, aiming to construct or upgrade 500,000 kilometers of rural highways.

Strengthening System Integration

In terms of bolstering system integration, the emphasis will be on refining the comprehensive transportation systems within modern metropolitan clusters.

Projects will be implemented to improve the efficiency of intercity commuting within these clusters.

The plan also includes accelerating the development of 20 international and 80 national comprehensive transportation hub cities.

A concerted effort will be made to advance multimodal transport, focusing on eliminating bottlenecks and choke points.

The target is to enhance the multimodal transport capabilities of approximately 1,000 major freight nodes over roughly the next five years.
