Reporters Visit the Grassroots: The "Harvest Code" of the Great Nation's Granary

On an autumn day, the air over the cornfields of Baoquanling Farm was filled with the fresh scent of stalks and the warmth of the soil. On the 26th, reporters followed the "Beidahuang Through My Eyes" media tour to this place. Although it was the Mid-Autumn holiday, the fields still roared with machinery, presenting a busy autumn harvest scene.

The autumn wind blew mightily, golden ears filled the barns, and the vast fields were dyed gold. Contiguous grain crops grew plump and full, with abundant kernels. Large combine harvesters, stubble-breaking machines, and plowing machines shuttled through the fields, operating efficiently.

Corn Harvest Scene

At the scene, reporters saw that the golden corn had matured, and three harvesters were carrying out reaping operations. "Look, on the left is the corn harvester doing the harvesting, and while harvesting, it crushes the stalks; on the right, the land is directly turned and buried, returning the stalks to the field, preparing for autumn ridging later, and also creating good soil conditions for next year's sowing," said Wang Changbin, general manager of the Agricultural Production Department of Beidahuang Agricultural Share Baoquanling Branch, in an interview at the scene.

According to reports, this demonstration area covers more than 760 mu, planted with the variety Dika F2063, with 5,600 seedlings per mu, and an expected yield of 1,000 kilograms per mu.

Corn Harvest Operation

"This year is really good, wind and rain were harmonious, my corn yielded more than 850 kilograms per mu, over 100 kilograms more than last year, and I can earn 200 yuan more," said Tang Fuquan, a grower, with the joy of harvest in his tone at the harvest site.

At the scene, reporters saw that while the corn was being harvested, high-horsepower machines pulled stalk crushers and hydraulic reversible plows followed closely, successively carrying out stalk crushing and plowing operations. They adopted a combined operation model of harvesting, plowing, harrowing, and leveling, ensuring that crop harvesting, stalk crushing and returning to the field, land preparation, and ridging were closely linked, improving operational efficiency. Technical personnel checked the operation quality along with the machines, ensuring that each plot harvested, prepared, and up to standard was completed, achieving 100% black overwintering, and making full preparations for next year's agricultural production.

Integrated Harvest and Preparation Operation

Reporters learned that this year, Baoquanling Farm focused on large-scale yield improvement and全域 standardization enhancement. In terms of large-scale grain yield improvement, it vigorously implemented the "Five Good" integration measures, adhered to high-standard land preparation, autumn ridging, and building high-quality topsoil; selected suitable high-quality varieties, and implemented full-process management with techniques such as layered fertilization, precision sowing, and intertillage seedling promotion, with full mechanized standardized operations; promoted the "Six Unifications" model, advancing operational standards and technology application coverage across the entire system, and built high-yield demonstration areas at two levels, promoting high-yield and efficient agricultural production.

As the sky gradually darkened, the swathing operation did not stop.

The reporter group took a car to the National Rice Planting Comprehensive Standardization Demonstration Area of Puyang Farm. It was already past 6 p.m., but the segmented harvest operation at Puyang Farm had not stopped. From a distance, three swathers shuttled back and forth in the fields, the roar of machines rising and falling, their headlights illuminating the golden rice paddies and also revealing the brilliance of the harvest.

Puyang Farm Swathing Operation

Reporters learned from the scene that as a large specialized rice planting farm, Puyang Farm has a total sowing area of 478,000 mu, with rice planting reaching 458,000 mu, and a solid foundation in large-scale and standardized planting. To seize the golden window period of autumn harvest and maximize quality improvement, loss reduction, and grain return to the barn, the farm vigorously promoted the swathing and picking segmented harvest model, fully utilizing natural light, heat, and ventilation in the fields to achieve natural dehydration of rice grains. This not only reduced grain moisture content and improved rice quality, but also lowered harvest losses, effectively alleviating the pressure on drying yards and drying storage, and truly holding the harvest in hand.

Currently at the Golden Period for Rice Swathing

Currently at the golden period for rice swathing, growers closely monitor weather dynamics, appropriately extend operation time, and adopt timely nighttime operations. Because rice stalks regain moisture at night, the panicles become more flexible, and when the swather's reel touches the panicles, it is less likely to cause grain shedding, effectively reducing grain loss during swathing and fully ensuring grain return to the barn.

"This year, farming used a lot of technology, good varieties were selected, field management kept up, pesticides were applied in time, weeds were controlled, and the rice grew particularly well in the later stage. So this year's swathing and drying went smoothly and saved a lot of worry," said Shan Yunhai, a machine operator working at night.

"In this year's autumn harvest, the farm focused on promoting rice segmented harvest technology, planned and deployed in advance in spring, and planned 100,000 mu for horizontal planting and vertical swathing. At the same time, it introduced and updated crawler-type swathers, strengthened mechanical support, and determined suitable local swathing periods based on years of production experience. Relying on successful cases from demonstration households for publicity and promotion, it made every effort to achieve high yield and harvest, and safe grain return to the barn," introduced Sun Bin, general manager of the Agricultural Development Department.

According to reports, at present, Puyang Farm's rice autumn harvest is steadily accelerating, with the overall harvest progress exceeding 10%, of which swathing and picking segmented harvest accounts for 15% of the harvested area.

The golden rice grains carry the expectations of a season's cultivation and are even more connected to the weight of the great nation's granary. Next, the farm will continue to closely monitor weather changes and field harvest progress, continuously refine various safeguard measures, optimize agricultural machinery scheduling, send technical personnel to provide field guidance, and advance swathing, picking, and grain return operations in a staggered manner, going all out to accelerate the autumn harvest process, striving to fully complete the rice harvest task by October 15, and safeguarding food security with practical work that races against time.

The black soil is silent, but the harvest has a voice. This is the autumn harvest frontline of Beidahuang. Every inch of field is saying: The Chinese rice bowl is held steadily and with full quality.
