CGN New Energy posts 15.1% YoY jump in August 2026 power generation; year-to-date output marginally lower

Bulletin Express
09/11

CGN New Energy reported consolidated power generation of 1,776.3 GWh in August 2026, a 15.1% year-on-year increase. The rise was driven primarily by stronger wind resources on the Chinese mainland and a notable expansion of capacity in South Korea.

Wind projects in mainland China generated 748.7 GWh, up 22.11% from the prior-year period, benefiting from solid performance at both on-shore and offshore facilities in Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Henan, Gansu and Anhui. Solar output on the mainland slipped 2.4% to 332.3 GWh, while gas-fired and hydro production declined 6.7% and 16.6%, respectively, amid lower dispatch and weaker water inflows in Sichuan. Generation from South Korean assets surged 21.93% to 629.8 GWh, reflecting the addition of the 557 MW Daesan Phase II gas-fired project.

For the first eight months of 2026, total group generation reached 12,719.2 GWh (12.72 billion kWh), edging down 0.6% year on year. Mainland wind output fell 13.5% to 6,057.3 GWh, while solar generation increased 21.7% to 2,223.4 GWh, offsetting some of the wind shortfall. Gas-fired production on the mainland declined 18.9% to 97.6 GWh, and hydro generation in Sichuan inched up 2.1% to 154.1 GWh. South Korean projects contributed 4,186.8 GWh, a 13.5% gain year on year.

Management attributes the August wind rebound to favorable wind conditions and a broader asset base, whereas the hydro drop reflects reduced water availability. The commissioning of Daesan Phase II underpinned the Korean segment’s double-digit growth.
