Wei Jianjun Declares Era of Valuing Markets by EV Penetration is Over

At the 18th Xuanyuan Auto Blue Book Forum held from May 15th to 17th in Guangzhou, themed "Turning Point," Great Wall Motor Company Limited (GWMOTOR) Chairman Wei Jianjun shared his insights.

He stated that focusing solely on pure electric vehicles would limit the addressable market to less than one-third of the potential. From a global perspective, approximately 60% of regions worldwide lack even a reliable electricity supply. While China benefits from inexpensive power and robust infrastructure, electricity is often a scarce and strained resource in many international markets. Therefore, GWMOTOR's offerings of diesel, gasoline, and hybrid models, which are not reliant on electricity, align well with local demands in those areas.

Wei Jianjun also addressed issues within the capital markets, highlighting two main problems: a pursuit of short-term gains and a failure to recognize excellent enterprises like GWMOTOR.

He emphasized that GWMOTOR's quality has earned a strong reputation. While others could adopt the company's "Guizhen" (return to essence) philosophy, GWMOTOR has moved faster in its implementation. The company represents a truly globally valuable model. In reality, technological gaps can be closed within a few years, and any existing barriers are not insurmountable. "Ultimately, success in any business comes from innovation in models and concepts, not merely from technology," he said.

"During a recent live stream on our Guizhen platform, I made a bold statement: our peers must learn from us and move closer to the GWMOTOR model. Otherwise, their costs will remain prohibitively high," he added.

In his view, the era of using electric vehicle penetration rates as a primary metric for market valuation is now over. He asserted that the industry should respect the first principles, which for GWMOTOR is embodied in the "Guizhen" philosophy—a return to fundamental essence.
