U.S. Telecom Regulator Adds Foreign Inverters and Robotics Gear to Restricted List

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce has responded to a U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) decision to include foreign-made power inverters and advanced robotics equipment on a restricted list.

A reporter asked whether the Ministry of Commerce had any comment on the FCC's announcement on July 28 (Eastern Time) that it had added foreign-produced power inverters and advanced robotics equipment to its "Covered List." The ruling means new models of these products will not be eligible for FCC certification and will be barred from sale in the U.S. market.

In response, the Ministry stated it has taken note of the situation. While the FCC's measures are ostensibly "non-discriminatory," they are in practice a discriminatory move to target and suppress Chinese companies and their products. This is not the first time the FCC has taken such action, having previously imposed restrictions on a range of other Chinese goods. For some time, the FCC has ignored repeated representations and the restrained stance of the Chinese side, continuously introducing and escalating restrictive measures. These actions severely damage China's legitimate trade interests, undermine the stability of Sino-U.S. economic and trade relations, and disrupt the stability of global industrial and supply chains. China is firmly opposed to these actions.

Robotics and power inverters are standard international commodities, and all parties, including the United States, benefit from this trade. The U.S. is overstretching the concept of national security, ignoring the strong calls from industry in both countries, and using administrative power to artificially interfere with normal commercial transactions and trade between enterprises. By continuing to push for "decoupling and supply chain disruption," the U.S. is engaging in a practice that harms both sides and is a textbook case of market distortion and unilateral bullying. China urges the U.S. to immediately revoke these measures and cease its erroneous actions. If the U.S. persists in its course, China will resolutely take countermeasures to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests.
