WeRide Inc. (WRD) saw its stock soar 5.87% in pre-market trading on Thursday, following a series of positive developments that underscore the company's growing dominance in the global autonomous driving sector. The surge comes on the heels of WeRide securing Switzerland's first driverless Robotaxi permit, a milestone achievement that significantly expands its international presence.

The permit, issued by Switzerland's Federal Roads Office (FEDRO), allows WeRide's autonomous vehicles to operate on public roads in the Furttal region. This breakthrough makes WeRide the world's only company with autonomous driving permits in eight countries, including Switzerland, China, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, France, Belgium, and the United States. The company plans to launch fully driverless public passenger service in Switzerland by the first half of 2026, with intentions to expand its fleet to include Robobuses.

Investors are likely encouraged by WeRide's expanding global footprint and technological leadership. The company's recent progress in other markets, such as receiving approval for autonomous vehicle testing in Singapore's Punggol district and securing commercial operation licenses for L4 fully autonomous vehicles in Abu Dhabi, further solidifies its position in the rapidly evolving autonomous vehicle industry. As WeRide continues to demonstrate its ability to secure regulatory approvals and expand its operations globally, market sentiment appears increasingly positive about the company's growth prospects and potential for commercialization of its autonomous driving technology.
