PayPay Corp.'s stock experienced a significant surge intraday, soaring 18.75% as the company began trading on the Nasdaq exchange.

The sharp rise is directly attributed to PayPay's hotly anticipated initial public offering (IPO) debut. The SoftBank-backed Japanese payments app priced its IPO at $16 per American Depositary Share (ADS) and was indicated to open significantly above this offer price, reflecting strong investor demand for the listing. The company raised approximately $880 million in the offering, marking the first U.S. listing of a SoftBank majority investment since Arm's blockbuster 2023 IPO.

PayPay, jointly formed by SoftBank and Yahoo Japan, has become one of Japan's most widely used digital wallets with roughly 72 million registered users. The company's domestic market strength and its expansion into an all-in-one digital finance platform are seen as key attractions for investors, providing insulation from broader market concerns and driving the positive debut momentum.
