Ahead of the May Day holiday, domestic fuel prices are expected to undergo a substantial reduction, potentially lowering the cost of self-drive travel. As of Friday, April 17, 2026, the eighth round of domestic fuel price adjustments for the year is currently in its statistical period. Only four days remain until the price adjustment window opens at 24:00 on April 21. So far, 80% of the current pricing cycle's statistics have been completed, and the projected reduction has continued to widen, with the decrease already exceeding 0.4 yuan per liter. Following six consecutive price hikes earlier this year, a significant price drop is now almost certain.

According to the latest price adjustment forecast on April 17, the eighth working day of the cycle, gasoline and diesel prices are projected to decrease by 500 yuan per ton and 480 yuan per ton, respectively. Converted to retail prices, this translates to a drop of 0.4 yuan per liter for 92-octane gasoline, 0.43 yuan per liter for 95-octane gasoline, and 0.41 yuan per liter for 0-grade diesel. Filling a 50-liter tank with 92-octane gasoline is expected to save approximately 20 yuan.

The final extent of the reduction will depend on the performance of international oil prices over the next few working days. However, minor adjustments may still be made during the pricing mechanism's operation based on prevailing conditions. The adjustment will take effect at 24:00 on April 21, with the final prices to be officially announced by the National Development and Reform Commission on that day.
