On August 1, Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited announced the appointment of Daniel Zhang, Managing Partner of Morning One Ventures and former Chairman of BABA-W, as the newest member of its Chinese Business Advisory Committee.
HKEX Chairman Calvin Choi expressed his pleasure at welcoming Zhang to the Chinese Business Advisory Committee, stating that Zhang possesses extensive experience and profound insights into Chinese enterprises and financial markets. His expertise will provide valuable guidance to the HKEX Board, helping the exchange leverage its unique advantage of "connecting China with the world" and achieve its strategic objectives.
According to available information, Zhang currently serves as Managing Partner of Morning One Ventures. Prior to joining Morning One Ventures, he joined Alibaba Group in 2007, where he held various key positions. He was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Alibaba Group in 2015 and additionally took on the role of Chairman of the Board in 2019, positions he held until stepping down in 2023.
With Zhang's addition, the Chinese Business Advisory Committee will expand to nine members. The committee is chaired by Zhang Yichen, who serves as both a non-executive director of HKEX and Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of CITIC Capital Holdings Limited.
Other committee members include: Laura Cha, former Chairman of HKEX; Fred Hu, Chairman of Primavera Capital Group; Professor Huang Yiping, Dean of the National School of Development and Director of the Digital Finance Research Center at Peking University; Ma Weihua, current Chairman of the National Guidance Fund for Transformation of Scientific and Technological Achievements and former President & CEO of China Merchants Bank; Sun Qiang, Partner and Chairman of TPG China; Calvin Choi, Chairman of HKEX; and Bonnie Chan, Group Chief Executive of HKEX.
