Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), has inked a contract with CULINES to construct two 14,000 TEU large container ships, with China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. acting as a joint partner in the agreement.

The newly contracted vessels, independently designed by Hudong-Zhonghua, measure 335 meters in length overall, 51 meters in breadth, and 30.2 meters in depth. With a design service speed of 21 knots, the ships utilize conventional propulsion systems while optimizing both cargo capacity and operational cost-efficiency.

Each vessel will be equipped with advanced energy-saving features, including twisted rudders with bulbs and energy-saving ducts. The adoption of variable frequency drive technology for engine room fans and seawater cooling pumps further enhances fuel efficiency through a range of eco-conscious design measures.

Established in 2005, CULINES has emerged as one of China's rapidly expanding international container liner operators in recent years. This order for the two 14,000 TEU boxships marks the company's first newbuild contract for vessels exceeding the 10,000 TEU threshold, representing a significant milestone in its fleet expansion strategy.
