Surge in Chinese Commercial Vehicle Exports via Dongxing Port in First Half of 2024; Lithium Batteries Gain New Export Route

In the first half of 2024, the export of Chinese-made commercial vehicles through Dongxing Port in Guangxi experienced explosive growth, with a total of 1,726 vehicles exported, a 2.3-fold increase year-on-year, according to the Dongxing Customs authorities on August 13.

During the same period, the total value of electromechanical products exported through the port reached 43.31 billion yuan, up 24.4% from a year earlier, accounting for 64.7% of the port's total export value. Among these, exports of computer and communication technology products totaled 15.64 billion yuan, surging 72.1% year-on-year.

Since the Beilun River Bridge II at Dongxing Port was equipped with a dedicated warehouse for battery products and a temporary vehicle parking area in March 2024, the range of goods passing through the port has significantly expanded. This has provided a new, compliant, and efficient export channel for lithium batteries, one of China's "New Three" products, along the southwestern border.

To facilitate this, the Dongxing Customs department has tailored a customs clearance supervision plan based on the transport and storage standards for battery cargo, conducted on-site simulation tests, and set up a dedicated green channel for battery goods. Under this system, cargo without irregularities can be cleared on the same day, marking a "zero breakthrough" in battery exports through the port.

Liu Bin, General Manager of Guangxi Chefu Network Supply Chain Management Co., Ltd., noted that with the rapid development of Vietnam's electric vehicle industry, demand for Chinese lithium batteries in Vietnam is continuously rising. Leveraging the efficient customs clearance environment and its proximity to industrial parks in northern Vietnam, Dongxing Port has enabled "zero-wait" clearance for Chinese battery exports, effectively reducing logistics costs.

In recent years, the customs authorities have implemented customized "one enterprise, one policy" facilitation measures to support foreign trade enterprises. These measures focus on the new energy and electronics manufacturing sectors, offering full-chain logistics and customs clearance support at Dongxing Port to help enterprises stabilize production and expand markets.

Dongxing Customs has also assigned dedicated liaison officers for battery cargo to assist companies with compliance management. Routine weekend customs clearance has been implemented, allowing for the immediate processing of import and export goods and empty return vehicles. On the import side, ASEAN specialty agricultural products continue to enrich the Chinese market. In the first half of the year, Dongxing Port imported 5.63 billion yuan worth of agricultural products from ASEAN, a 14.3% increase year-on-year, with fresh lobsters, blue crabs, and durians being quickly delivered to consumers after efficient customs supervision.
