According to the latest research from Omdia, the shipment value of OLED display panels for laptops is forecast to expand to $11.5 billion by 2033, representing approximately 16.2% of total OLED display revenue. In 2026, laptop OLED panel revenue is expected to hit $4 billion, primarily driven by demand for Apple's MacBook Pro series. Starting from July 2026, Samsung Display will supply OLED panels for the MacBook Pro line (14.3-inch and 16.3-inch models), with the related devices anticipated for release in the third quarter of 2026.

Jerry Kang, Omdia's head of display research, stated, "Apple is adopting a hybrid OLED solution for its MacBook Pro series, based on oxide TFT and RGB tandem OLED technology. This combination is a first for products of this form factor and is designed to further reduce power consumption compared to LTPO and single-stack RGB OLED."

Over the past decade, most OLED displays for laptops have been based on rigid OLED technology, similar to the path used for mid-range smartphones. However, with anticipated growth in OLED demand for IT applications like tablets and laptops, panel manufacturers are increasing investments in Gen 8.6 production capacity and employing various process technologies, including LTPO and oxide TFT.

Furthermore, to enhance production efficiency for large-sized OLEDs, manufacturers are exploring new patterning methods such as inkjet printing (IJP) and fine-pattern mask (FPM), developing them alongside the established fine metal mask (FMM) technology.

Kang added, "As previously seen in the smartphone OLED display market, different combinations of technologies—including variations in backplane materials, substrate circuitry, and OLED patterning processes—will be applied to laptop OLED displays over the long term. In particular, demand for hybrid OLED in laptops is expected to grow significantly by 2033, as it enables slimmer and lighter device designs by saving space on circuitry and batteries."

Omdia forecasts that within the laptop OLED segment, the shipment share of hybrid OLED will increase from 12.6% in 2026 to 89.5% by 2033.
