Japan's top currency official, Atsushi Mimura, stated on Thursday that International Monetary Fund (IMF) regulations do not restrict how often authorities can intervene in the foreign exchange market. Following a significant surge in the yen on Wednesday, Mimura told reporters that the government would continue to monitor exchange rate movements with a strong sense of urgency. He declined to comment on the recent fluctuations. Mimura noted that speculative activities in the forex market are still ongoing. Authorities are observing various markets to explore possible countermeasures. He refused to comment on whether there is a specific defense line for the yen's exchange rate. He also declined to comment on the upcoming visit of U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
