According to informed sources, OpenAI plans to nearly double its employee count by the end of 2026 in response to competition from companies such as Anthropic PBC and Alphabet's Google.

The sources indicated that the developer of ChatGPT intends to increase its workforce from approximately 4,500 employees to around 8,000. The new hires will primarily be concentrated in areas including product development, engineering, research, and sales.

The sources also noted that OpenAI has secured additional office space in San Francisco to accommodate its expanding team, increasing its total office footprint in the city to over one million square feet.
