On August 26, the hashtag #RefundAccountCheck topped Weibo's trending list, sparking widespread discussion among netizens.
The incident originated from recent reports that multiple platforms including MEITUAN-W and others were experiencing "unprocessed refunds" issues, triggering a nationwide account-checking trend.
Regarding the "order refund not received" problem, MEITUAN-W's customer service official Weibo account issued a statement saying they have fixed the delayed refund information issue and will subsequently help users trace every concerning order.
MEITUAN-W customer service stated that for such orders, users can process refunds to newly designated bank cards or contact customer service for assistance. The company is also continuously reminding relevant users to receive their refunds through SMS and other methods.
Notably, under the "refund account check" hashtag, many users commented: "My ofo bike deposit still hasn't been refunded, it's been since 2019 until now." "ofo still owes me 99 yuan, when will they refund it to me." "I'm reminded again of my 200+ yuan ofo deposit."
It's reported that ofo stated in December 2018 that they would "be responsible for every penny owed and for every user who supported ofo."
In 2021, ofo launched a "invite friends to get deposit refund" campaign, where users could receive up to 40% cashback of the purchase amount by inviting friends to shop on ofo, plus options to recharge 400/800 yuan to get 99/199 yuan deposit refunds.
Regarding this campaign, CCTV commented that ofo's activity wasn't about inviting friends to help, but rather inviting friends to "share" the trap. Users should rightfully enjoy unconditional deposit refunds, yet the program reeked of "Ponzi scheme" characteristics. While ofo's lack of refund capability was already apparent, their lack of proper refund attitude and unscrupulous tactics had angered the public.
