Weichai Power Surges Over 6% in Late Trading as Company Accelerates SOFC Capacity Expansion

Weichai Power Co., Ltd. (02338) saw its stock price rise more than 6% in late trading. As of the latest update, shares are up 5.88% to HK$41.4, with a trading volume of HK$766 million. The global solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) sector is entering a phase of accelerated production expansion. Bloom Energy currently has a capacity of 1GW and plans to expand to 2GW by the end of 2026. Ceres Power is collaborating with manufacturing partners including Weichai, Doosan, Delta Electronics, Denso, and Thermax through technology licensing agreements. Weichai Power recently stated that the company is fully accelerating its SOFC capacity construction efforts, aiming to achieve batch production capacity within the year. Simultaneously, it is planning future capacity expansions in advance to accelerate growth in line with market and industry demand. J.P. Morgan noted in a research report that Weichai Power benefits from investors shifting their focus from traditional heavy-duty truck engines to the energy transition, as well as strong quarterly results and upward guidance from global peers. Supply in the global AI data center power market is extremely tight, with customers prioritizing supply speed and delivery capabilities. J.P. Morgan believes the market is undergoing a revaluation of Weichai Power and maintains it as a top pick in the sector.
