The multinational coalition command led by Saudi Arabia issued a statement on July 20, local time, stating that the coalition has begun implementing measures to protect the passage of allied nations' vessels through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

It further declared that, in accordance with international law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, it will take resolute and robust countermeasures against any threats to maritime shipping security.

Coalition spokesperson Turki Al-Maliki stated that the coalition command is undertaking all necessary military actions and stringent measures to ensure the navigational safety of allied vessels in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

He emphasized that these operations are in compliance with international law and the relevant provisions of the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

The statement also asserted that the coalition will deliver a firm response to any threats posed by the Houthi forces against commercial shipping.

It characterized such actions as a blatant violation of international law and constituting unlawful maritime conduct.
