Samsung Electronics Appoints Mobile Division Head as New Co-CEO

Samsung Electronics announced on Friday the appointment of TM Roh, head of its mobile division, as the new co-CEO while retaining his role as leader of the Device Experience (DX) Division, which oversees the company's smartphone, TV, and home appliance businesses.

The move marks Samsung's return to its traditional dual-CEO structure, where leadership responsibilities are divided between the semiconductor and consumer electronics divisions. This follows a temporary shift to a single-CEO model after the unexpected passing of former co-CEO Han Jong-Hee in March this year.

Roh has been serving as interim head of the consumer electronics business since April following Han's death.

Earlier this month, Samsung appointed a new head for its Business Support Office, the tech giant's core decision-making body that directly serves Chairman Lee Jae-yong.

Analysts note that the Business Support Office, upgraded from a previous "task force" structure, now functions as a central strategic unit within the Samsung Group—equivalent to a "mini control tower." As South Korea's largest conglomerate with businesses spanning semiconductors, smartphones, shipbuilding, and pharmaceuticals, Samsung relies on this office to coordinate operations across its various business units and subsidiaries.
