Anqiu's Green Corridor Traffic Surges for Three Straight Years, Elevating Agricultural Value Proposition

From 2023 through 2025, the agricultural freight volume traveling through the highway green corridors of Anqiu City in Weifang, Shandong Province, saw year-on-year growth of 54.14%, 28.1%, and 31.06%, respectively. This triple-digit consecutive increase underscores Anqiu's transformation from a national agricultural distribution hub into an industrial value stronghold.

Situated at the geometric center of the Shandong Peninsula, Anqiu is encircled by three expressways—Weifang-Rizhao, Weifang-Qingdao, and Jinan-Weifang—with a 300-kilometer radius covering major production areas and consumer markets. The city hosts 220 logistics enterprises, 3,132 transport vehicles, and 45 agricultural wholesale markets, forming a distribution network that spans the entire country.

"The city now operates over 600 cold storage facilities with a combined capacity exceeding 1 million tons. By stockpiling during peak harvests and releasing inventory in off-seasons, we effectively smooth out seasonal fluctuations, ensuring Anqiu can truly 'store, hold, and dispatch with ease,'" said Cui Guojie, Director of the Anqiu Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau. When out-of-town agricultural vehicles surge through the green corridors during harvest seasons, cold storage absorbs the supply; during processing peaks, the inventory is drawn down to feed production lines. This mechanism converts seasonal, pulse-like supply into a stable, year-round allocation system.

Behind this distribution capability lies a mature trading market. The Anqiu Agro-Valley Logistics Park handles over 450,000 tons of transactions annually, with scallions alone seeing stable daily trading volumes of 1,500 to 2,000 tons. "Enterprises can source suitable raw materials directly from our market, cutting out intermediaries, reducing logistics costs, and securing reliable supply," noted Li Chao, scallion market manager at the park. The sustained rise in green corridor traffic is primarily propelled by the continuous expansion of processing capacity. Anqiu's exports of ginger, scallions, and onions account for over 80% of the national total, with more than 80% of local agricultural products undergoing deep processing. The product range exceeds 2,000 varieties, ranking first in Shandong Province.

This capacity expansion has driven a nationwide raw material layout, with Anqiu enterprises "chasing the sun to grow onions"—planting in a north-to-south sequence for staggered harvests. White jade onions fetch up to 10 yuan per jin and hold roughly one-quarter of the Japanese market share. "We enforce unified management across seedlings, technology, testing, procurement, and sales—our 'six-in-one' approach—embedding the 'Anqiu Standard' into every base," said Yun Shujie, Deputy General Manager of Shandong Lufeng Group Co., Ltd. Today, Anqiu has established an industrial framework characterized by "production bases across the nation, processing centers in Anqiu, and sales markets spanning the globe."

Anqiu's aggregation extends beyond goods to encompass standards and information. The city has built China's first county-level international standards database for agricultural products, covering 67 countries and regions with 260,000 standard parameters. This system can forecast international market trends 7 to 12 months in advance, serving over 600 export enterprises across 16 provinces. Export customs clearance time has been slashed from three days to under six hours. "We operate 12 offline showrooms in cities like Beijing and Shenzhen, supplying 200,000 tons annually to premium retail channels such as Sam's Club and Freshippo," said the head of the Anqiu Farming regional public brand operating company. Currently, Anqiu is home to over 400 agricultural product processing enterprises, including 206 exporters, shipping goods to 97 countries and regions. Export value has held the top county-level position in Shandong for 17 consecutive years, with a standard container dispatched overseas every eight minutes.
